International Yoga Day was celebrated on June 21 in the state of Himachal Pradesh under Sri Ravi Shankar of ‘Art of Living’ society. Himachal is now almost flooded with heavy rains but women and children took part in the event in spite of the harsh weather.
Yoga is becoming popular day by day due to its usability and increasing health consciousness of people. Both adults and children are interested in learning yoga as today’s lifestyle involves less physical labor and more stress. Youngsters are depressed due to the pressure of career making and family issues. Medicines have their side effects so people all over the world are switching to yoga asanas and meditation.
In the Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh, People celebrates International yoga day with Shri Shri Ravi Shankar. Union minister Smriti Irani and former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal were also present at the occasion. Ravi Shankar Maharaj addressed the gathering saying that yoga can transform human mind and body.
International Yoga day
International Yoga Day is celebrated every year on 21 June and the trend began in 2015. 21 June is the longest day in the northern hemisphere and has a special significance in different parts of the world. Hence, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi declared 21 June to be celebrated as International Yoga Day.
“Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies the unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help in well-being. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day.” Narendra Modi said in UN General Assembly.
